Tita's nephew Roberto is born. Rosaura is unable to nurse him, but Tita can.
Chapter 4After Elena sends Pedro and Rosaura to San Antonio, Roberto dies from malnutrition.
Chapter 5Tita has a mental breakdown. John Brown nurses her back to health at his house.
Chapter 6Chencha comes with oxtail soup and news of Gertrudis. Tita speaks for the first time since arriving.
Chapter 7Mama Elena is paralyzed after bandits attack the ranch. Tita returns to care for her.
