This collection analyzes some of the best-known poems of Emily Dickinson, generally recognized as a significant American poet of the 19th century. She wrote nearly 1,800 poems, recognized for their brilliance, originality, and uncompromising truth. Only 10 were published during her lifetime, two of which appear in this collection. As her poems cover a wide variety of subjects, it is her unique style that gives her work coherence. Johnson's The Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson, first published in 1955.
