Having been tipped off by I-r0k, fleets of Sixers as well as independent gunters swarm the planet Ludus, looking for the entrance to the Tomb of Horrors. Parzival tells Aech IOI blew up the stacks where he lives. IOI has also contacted Aech, but he has ignored their e-mails. Parzival wants to warn Art3mis, Daito, and Shoto, so the five of them meet in Aech's chat room.
Art3mis reports the Sixers found the tomb's entrance and blocked it off with a force field. Shoto says the Sixers have no honor. Parzival tells the story of his meeting with Nolan Sorrento and its deadly aftermath. Daito and Shoto thank Parzival for inadvertently leading them to the tomb's entrance. They discuss the Sixers' advantage. Daito and Shoto become offended and leave abruptly when Aech hints it might be advantageous for the five of them to form an alliance. The gunters are shaken by Parzival's recent brush with real-life death. Daito and Shoto become paranoid and leave, unsure whether Parzival, Aech, and Art3mis are IOI spies. When a stack of comic books falls to the floor, Parzival suggests there may be "an invisible avatar, eavesdropping" on their conversation. Aech assures him this is impossible because the chat room is encrypted. Parzival, however, knows anything is possible.
Parzival, Aech, Art3mis, Daito, and Shoto are fiercely independent gunters although Aech is the most amenable to alliances. The Japanese gamers Daito and Shoto identify themselves as brothers even though they aren't related in real life; they work as a team but are rigidly opposed to any sort of larger alliance. Although Aech, Art3mis, Daito, and Shoto are determined to figure out the quest on their own, Parzival has helped all of them. Art3mis found the tomb first, but she couldn't defeat the lich until Parzival gave her a tip about how to play Joust. Aech, Daito, and Shoto, like the Sixers and the gunters now swarming Ludus, advanced in the quest when they learned Parzival attends school on Ludus. It would have taken them much longer to find the tomb without this information.
