Summary

Parzival teleports to Frobozz and finds himself in an "immersive three-dimensional version" of the game Zork, a text adventure game he's played once before. Inside a dilapidated house, he finds a box of Cap'n Crunch cereal containing a toy whistle; he thinks it is the whistle mentioned in the Jade Key clue. Parzival completes Zork by collecting 19 treasures. When he places the final treasure inside a case of trophies and blows the whistle, it transforms into a foil-covered key. Parzival unwraps the silver foil and finds he is holding the Jade Key.

As Parzival is leaving the planet, an incoming fleet of Sixers damages his spaceship. Later that day Nolan Sorrento and Shoto also secure the Jade Key. Daito's name disappears from the scoreboard, indicating he has been killed.

Analysis

Parzival curses himself for having played Zork only once before, describing his oversight as "a shocking display of unforgivable ignorance." If he were more familiar with the game, he would have connected it to the Jade Key clue. He did not make the connection without explicit help from Aech. However, his familiarity with the game allows him to complete it quickly—and with the Sixers on the way to Frobozz, speed is essential.

Nolan Sorrento, the Sixers' leader, has made his way into the top five names on the scoreboard; previously the top five were all independent gunters. This advantage comes, in part, from IOI's violent strategy against other gunters. At this point Sixers have attacked Parzival twice inside the OASIS and once in real life. When Daito's name disappears from the scoreboard, Parzival knows he has been killed, most likely by the Sixers. It is unclear whether Daito has been killed in real life or whether his avatar has been killed inside the OASIS.
