Ready Player One | Level 3, Chapter 0035 | Summary

As soon as the bomb explodes in Castle Anorak, a battle erupts in front of the castle between all the independent gunters and the Sixer fleet. Aech, Art3mis, Shoto, and Parzival attack Sorrento's robot with their own, but Sorrento's robot seems nearly immune to harm. Suddenly Shoto flies at Sorrento and tells the other three to enter the castle. Sorrento and Shoto square off, and Sorrento quickly destroys Shoto's robot and kills his avatar. Preparing to enter the castle, Parzival finds his robot has been half-destroyed by Sorrento's blast, and he ejects. He barely manages to escape being crushed by Sorrento's robot's foot.

While Art3mis and Aech are already inside the castle, Parzival takes out the Beta Capsule and decides to square off against Sorrento. Transformed into Ultraman, he destroys Sorrento's robot in an explosion. Sorrento ejects inside the robot's head, but Parzival shoots the head out of the sky, killing Sorrento's avatar. When Parzival enters the castle, Art3mis and Aech berate him for taking on Sorrento. Parzival recites the words to the Schoolhouse Rock song, and two additional keyholes appear on the Third Gate. Inserting their keys simultaneously, the three open the gate. Just as they leap into the star field inside the gate, an explosion kills all three of their avatars.

In this chapter, both Shoto and Parzival are motivated by a personal desire for revenge against Sorrento. They take extraordinary risks with their avatars' lives and threaten to forsake winning the contest to make Sorrento suffer for what he has done to both of them in real life: he's tried to kill Wade, and he's succeeded in killing Shoto's partner, Daito. It is a matter of honor and pride for both Parzival and Shoto to take this risk. While Shoto pays with his avatar's life, Parzival is successful in destroying Sorrento's avatar by using the Beta Capsule that the late Daito willed to him, a fitting vengeance.
