"The Bet" is narrated from a third-person limited omniscient point of view that mostly follows the banker.
"The Bet" is narrated in the past tense.
The plot of "The Bet" is based on a bet, or wager, which arises spontaneously between two men: the lawyer agrees to remain imprisoned for 15 years in exchange for "two million" from the banker. This bet is intended to prove whether life imprisonment is more or less moral than capital punishment.
