Richard Dawkins wrote The Blind Watchmaker to highlight the evidence for evolution that had come to light in the 127 years since British naturalist Charles Darwin (1809–82) published On the Origin of Species in 1859. In addition to presenting evidence, Dawkins uses a simple computer program to explain natural selection and the evolutionary process. He discusses opposing theories and explains that supposed "rifts" among evolutionary biologists are not significant disagreements. Dawkins argues that even if scientists could not find a single shred of evidence for evolution, the theory perfectly explains how life developed on Earth.
