Summary

Marie St. Jacques sits with General Crawford and Dr. Morris Panov. With great reluctance, they show her a file. David Webb is the subject. He is a man who was recruited by Medusa after his wife and children were killed near the Mekong River. Then the recruit, David Webb, became Delta. He killed (the actual) Jason Bourne because Jason Bourne was discovered to be traitor during a mission to rescue a military captive, Major Gordon Webb, David Webb's brother—David Webb was also on the rescue mission.

Then, David Webb had had enough of fighting. He had left Medusa and started teaching at a college when David Abbott, "the Monk," recruited David for a new mission.

Now, David Webb, the man Marie St. Jacques knows as Jason Bourne, is under protection. Carlos is still at large, and David Webb is the only man who can identify him. Dr. Morris Panov hopes he can help Webb. He's not sure.

From the window of a waterfront cottage, protected by men with guns, Marie St. Jacques sees David Webb walking in the surf. He's not cured, but he is physically strong. As she watches, he runs to the house—up to her.

Analysis

The story is out: Jason Bourne, a.k.a. Delta, a.k.a. Cain, a.k.a. Washburn, a.k.a. Briggs is David Webb. He has a name and a past. Tragically, he also had a brother, killed in the Treadstone Seventy-One massacre. The story needs to continue. There are questions for the future: will David regain his memory? Will he and Marie St. Jacques marry and start a family? Will he finally catch Carlos? Does Dr. Geoffrey Washburn come to see David as he recuperates? What will happen to all of the millions of dollars in "Cain's" account? To be continued ...
