Short Story
Comedy, Romance
"The Country Husband" is told by a third-person, limited narrator who closely follows the perspective of protagonist Francis Weed.
In "The Country Husband," all the incidents are relayed in the past tense except for protagonist Francis Weed's first evening at home after the plane crash and the conclusion of the story.
The title "The Country Husband" refers to the social role of the protagonist, Francis Weed. He is an upper-middle-class white-collar man who dutifully provides for his wife and children with a nice home in a newly created postwar suburb outside the city. With this role come expectations and responsibilities that Francis suddenly finds stifling and repressive.
