"The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar" is told from a third-person limited point of view through the perspective of the Mesmerist.
Poe's short story is told in the past tense.
"The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar" refers to the particular events that occur between the Mesmerist and his patient Monsieur Valdemar when the Mesmerist puts him in a trance-like state at the moment of his death.
