In The Merry Wives of Windsor, the roguish knight Falstaff tries to flatter two married women, Mistress Ford and Mistress Page, into becoming his lovers. Instead the two "merry wives" collude to play a series of embarrassing pranks on Falstaff. Windsor, a market town west of London and the home of Windsor Castle, is the play's setting.
