The Misanthrope | Act 2, Scene 2 | Summary

Share
Share

Summary

Célimène's servant Basque announces the arrival of Acaste, a young nobleman from the court. Célimène directs Basque to show the visitor in.

Analysis

Like the transition in Act 1 from Scene 1 to Scene 2, this is a seamless run-in of scenes. The rapid transition serves to illustrate Alceste's objection that Célimène is too ready to receive visitors, especially young men who seek her romantic attention.
