This scene flows directly from Scene 1, with the now familiar run-in technique. Célimène enters to inform Acaste and Clitandre that she thinks she heard a carriage in the street.
Note Clitandre's rather sugary explanation of why he and Acaste have remained at Célimène's residence: "T'was love that stayed our feet." This falseness shows that he will go to any lengths to gain the upper hand over his rival.
