Treplyov Konstantin Gavrilovich Treplyov, sometimes also called Kostya, is Arkadina's son and Sorin's nephew. Read More
Arkadina Irina Nikolayevna Arkadina is an aging actress who is Treplyov's mother, Trigorin's lover, and Sorin's sister. Read More
Nina Nina Mikhaylovna Zarechnaya is the young daughter of Sorin's neighbor. Read More
Trigorin Boris Alekseyevich Trigorin is Arkadina's lover and a moderately successful and famous writer. Read More
Polina Andreyevna Polina is Shamrayev's wife and Masha's mother.
Cook The cook is a household servant.
Dorn Yevgeny Sergeyevich Dorn is a local doctor. Dorn is a frequent visitor to Sorin's estate, especially when Sorin's sister, Arkadina, and her entourage are visiting. Dorn is the only one who can express an insightful analysis of Treplyov's play.
Maid The maid is a household servant.
Masha Masha is also called Marya Ilyinichna, or Mashenka. She is the daughter of Polina and Shamrayev and is Sorin's neighbor. Masha is on a course of utter self-abasement and sacrifice in an attempt to get Treplyov to notice that she is madly and hopelessly in love with him.
Semyon Semyonovich Medvedenko Medvedenko is a poor school teacher who marries Masha.
Ilya Afanasyevich Shamrayev Shamrayev is a retired lieutenant and Sorin's estate manager. He is also Polina's husband and Masha's father.
Sorin Pyotr Nikolayevich Sorin, who is also called Petrusha, is Arkadina's older brother and Treplyov's uncle. He is the owner of the estate that provides the location of all four acts in the play. Sorin is completely malcontent with his lot in life.
Yakov Yakov is a workman on Sorin's estate.
