Thomas More

Thomas More was a real-world major political figure in England. Utopia is written in the first person in More's voice. In Utopia More meets up with real-world friends including Peter Giles, but he also interacts with an imaginary traveler, Raphael Hythloday.

Raphael Hythloday

Raphael Hythloday is an entirely imaginary character and a friend of Peter Giles. Hythloday has traveled the world with Amerigo Vespucci and, in his travels, discovers the hidden country of Utopia. Most of the book is dedicated to Hythloday's description of Utopia.
