To help you on what can be a challenging road, Course Hero is introducing the Hero Student Scholarship. You can be awarded $5,000/year until graduation. Yep, we’ll be with you every step of the way.

Tell us your story. What challenges have you overcome? What dreams do you have? How have you persevered in the face of responsibilities and pressures to keep moving ahead toward your goals? How has Course Hero helped along the way?

This scholarship is administered by Scholarship America. They’ll let all applicants know about their award decisions by late June 2020. If you receive good news, a scholarship check will then be mailed directly to you. It will be made payable to your school, so it can be applied to your tuition.

(Please note: You’re eligible to receive this scholarship yearly for up to three years if you maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Your total scholarship award can be up to $15,000.)

Eligibility

Undergraduate students with a minimum of 24 credits (or equivalent) completed by the end of the current semester
Legally residing in the U.S.
Planning to enroll full-time for the entire upcoming academic year at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school (or equivalent) in the U.S.
At least 18 years old as of the application submission date
Have a Course Hero account as of the application deadline date

Demonstrated financial need
Academic performance, demonstrated leadership, and participation in school and community activities, and work experience

Hero Student Scholarship (the “Scholarship”) is sponsored by Course Hero, Inc., having an address of 2000 Seaport Blvd. Third Floor, Redwood City, CA 94063 (“Course Hero”). The Scholarship will be run by Course Hero’s agent Scholarship America (“Scholarship America”)

ELIGIBILITY:

Subject to these Official Rules, the Scholarship is open only to legal U.S. residents physically residing in the fifty (50) United States of America and the District of Columbia, who: (i) are at least 18 years old as of the application submission date, (ii) undergraduate students or community college students with a minimum of 24 credits (or equivalent) completed by the end of the current semester, (iii) are planning to enroll full time for the entire upcoming academic year at in a two-year or four-year accredited undergraduate college or university, or vocational, or technical or institution in the United States, as listed on the U.S. Department of Education website, available at http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.aspx; (iv) have a Course Hero account as of the application deadline date, (v) have submitted an application at https://start.scholarsapply.org, Scholarship awards will not be paid to institutions outside the U.S. Employees of Course Hero and their respective parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, and advertising and promotion agencies and any other entity involved in the development or administration of this Scholarship, and their immediate family members or household members are not eligible to participate in or to be selected for the Scholarship. THE SCHOLARSHIP IS VOID WHERE PROHIBITED OR RESTRICTED BY LAW OR WHERE BONDING, REGISTRATION, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS WOULD BE REQUIRED BUT HAVE NOT BEEN MET, OR WHERE THE METHODS OF ENTRY SET FORTH BELOW WOULD BE DEEMED CONSIDERATION. ALL APPLICABLE FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL LAWS APPLY.

SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:

Course Hero will post the application guidelines at https://www.coursehero.com/scholarships/1000117/hero-student-scholarship/ Eligible applicants must demonstrate financial need, leadership and participation in school and community activities, share information about their academic performance, work experience, write a statement of career and educational goals and objectives, and submit a written response of less than 1,000 characters to the scholarship question listed in the application guidelines. Course Hero, in partnership with Scholarship America, will select up to 30 recipients with the strongest applications from among all Scholarship applicants (judging criteria detailed below). Finalists may be asked to participate in a video interview as part of the selection process. Each Scholarship recipient will receive a renewable (subject to the eligibility limitations set forth below) $5,000 (USD) scholarship (the “Scholarship”). Recipients are eligible to renew their awards up to two years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, under the condition that the recipient maintains a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).

ENTRY PERIOD:

The Scholarship will begin at 6:00 am CT on February, 28, 2020, and will end at 3:00 pm CT on April, 14, 2020, or until 10,000 applications are received; whichever occurs first (“Application Period”). The deadline to submit applications for the Scholarship, and a notification about the maximum number of applications accepted will be displayed on the Scholarship application page. Once the Application Period has passed or the maximum number of applications has been reached, whichever occurs first, no further applications for the Scholarship will be accepted. Scholarship America will notify the recipients with the response process to accept awards and verify enrollment by June, 30, 2020. Course Hero reserves the right to change any beginning or end dates of the Scholarship at any time. Course Hero also reserves the right to discontinue the Scholarship at any time.

HOW TO APPLY:

No purchase or payment is necessary to participate in the Scholarship. Applicants must agree to Course Hero’s Terms of Use (https://www.coursehero.com/terms-of-use/) and Privacy Policy (https://www.coursehero.com/privacy-policy/), and register for an account on CourseHero.com by the scholarship deadline date. During the Application Period, apply to the Scholarship by visiting https://www.coursehero.com/scholarships/1000117/hero-student-scholarship/ or https://start.scholarsapply.org, creating an account on / or logging in to their Scholarship America Hub, and completing the required fields on the application. After completing your application, lock and submit your application. Any late, lost, misdirected, incorrect or incomplete applications will be disqualified and Course Hero and its agents will not be responsible for such applications. By entering, you agree to accept and be bound by all terms and conditions in these Official Rules.

By submitting an application, you agree that any information provided by you or collected by Scholarship America in connection with the Scholarship may be used by Scholarship America and Course Hero to assess your application. Your use of Course Hero’s products and services shall be in accordance with Course Hero’s Terms of Use (https://www.coursehero.com/terms-of-use/) and any personal data you submit to Course Hero shall be processed in accordance with Course Hero’s Privacy Policy (https://www.coursehero.com/privacy-policy/)..

SELECTION OF RECIPIENTS:

A review committee from Scholarship America (the “Review Committee”) shall review and assess each of the eligible Scholarship applications and select Scholarship finalists with the strongest applications. A Course Hero selection panel (the “Selection Panel”) will then assess these finalists’ Scholarship applications and decide on the Scholarship recipients. The Review Committee and Selection Panel shall base their decisions on the following criteria: demonstrated financial need, consideration of academic performance, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of career and educational goals and objectives, unusual circumstances, and the answer to an essay question. The Selection Panel may request a video interview with finalists. Receiving the scholarship award depends on the strength of your application and the quality of your response as evaluated by the Review Committee and Selection Panel. Review Committee and Selection Panel decisions are final and binding in all matters relating to this Scholarship.

We expressly reserve the right to disqualify any entries that we believe in good faith were generated by an automated means or scripts, or that were the result of plagiarism. Entries generated by script, macro or other automated means are void.

To receive a complete list of recipients or a copy of the Official Rules, within six (6) months after the end of the Entry Period, send a self-addressed stamped envelope to Course Hero, Inc., 2000 Seaport Blvd. Third Floor, Redwood City, CA 94063, Attn: “HERO STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP Recipient’s List” and specify the month(s) for which you wish to receive such information.

SCHOLARSHIPS:

Up to 30 Scholarship recipients will each receive a renewable (subject to the eligibility limitations set forth below) $5,000 Scholarship to be applied toward tuition at the college or university in which they are enrolled. Recipients are eligible to renew their awards up to two years or until a degree is earned, whichever occurs first, under the condition that the recipient maintains a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent). In no event shall Course Hero be obligated to award any prizes other than the Scholarship specified in these Official Rules. The Scholarships are non-transferable and no substitutions (including, without limitation, for cash) are permitted. The recipients shall be solely responsible and liable for all federal, state and local taxes, and any other costs and expenses, associated with the Scholarships.

CLAIMING YOUR SCHOLARSHIP:

The Scholarship recipients will be notified by mail; provided, however, that Scholarship America reserves the right to determine an alternate method of notification.

Scholarship awards will be disbursed in the form of checks mailed to the recipients. The checks are made payable to each recipient’s accredited college, university or institution for tuition for the semester following their selection. The recipient is required to provide the following information if requested:

Your Course Hero username and profile URL;
Your current or most recent transcript from your enrolled college or university;

The recipients must cooperate with Scholarship America and their institution in filing or providing any necessary paperwork or other materials or signatures deemed necessary by Course Hero or the institution in their discretion to process the Scholarship. Scholarship America may, in its sole discretion, decline to award payment of the Scholarship in the case of a recipient’s failure to provide information in a timely fashion requested by Course Hero or the institution, or if the student's enrollment lapses for any reason.

PAYMENT DIRECTIONS:

Scholarship America, will pay the Scholarship directly to the U.S. accredited college or university of the eligible recipient in lump sum payments for each academic year of eligibility up to three total years. No Scholarship monies will be paid directly to the selected recipient. Course Hero and Scholarship America have the sole discretion and final word over the timing and manner of any scholarship payments.

GENERAL CONDITIONS AND RELEASES:

By applying to the Scholarship or accepting a Scholarship, you agree to conform to all federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Unless prohibited by applicable law, your acceptance of a Scholarship constitutes your permission to use your name, photograph, likeness, voice, address (city and state), testimonials, and any other information provided to Course Hero in connection with the Scholarship in all media, in perpetuity, in any manner Course Hero deems appropriate for publicity purposes without any compensation to such entrant or any review or approval rights, notifications, or permissions; and constitutes your consent to disclose your personally identifiable information to third parties (including, without limitation, placing the recipient’s name on a recipient’s list).

An applicant or recipient may be disqualified from the Scholarship if he or she fails to comply with each provision of these Official Rules, as determined in the sole discretion of Course Hero or the Selection Panel. Participation in the Scholarship is at the applicant’s own risk. Course Hero shall not be liable for: (1) failed, returned or misdirected notifications based on inaccurate information provided by the recipient in connection with an entry; (2) entries and responses to recipient notifications which are lost, late, incomplete, illegible, unintelligible, postage-due, misdirected, damaged or otherwise not received by the intended recipient in whole or in part or for computer or technical error of any kind; (3) any electronic miscommunications or failures, technical hardware or software failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmissions which may limit an entrant's ability to participate in the Contest; (4) any technical malfunctions of the telephone network, computer on-line system, computer equipment, software, program malfunctions or other failures, delayed computer transactions or network connections that are human, mechanical or technical in nature, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to entrant's or any other person's computer or mobile device related to or resulting from downloading any application or otherwise in connection with this Contest; or (5) any warranty with respect to any Scholarship or any component thereof. THE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AWARDED “AS IS” AND COURSE HERO DOES NOT MAKE ANY, AND HEREBY DISCLAIMS ANY AND ALL, REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND REGARDING THE SCHOLARSHIPS.

NOTWITHSTANDING ANYTHING ELSE HEREIN OR OTHERWISE, COURSE HERO AND/OR ITS VENDORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE OR OBLIGATED WITH RESPECT TO ANY SUBJECT MATTER OF THIS AGREEMENT OR UNDER CONTRACT, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY OR OTHER LEGAL OR EQUITABLE THEORY FOR (A) ANY SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, LOSS OF REVENUE, GOODWILL, OR ANTICIPATED PROFITS), (B) DATA LOSS OR COST OF PROCUREMENT OF SUBSTITUTE GOODS OR SERVICES, AND/OR (C) ANY MATTER BEYOND SUCH PARTIES’ REASONABLE CONTROL.

By entering the Scholarship, you agree to and hereby do release and hold harmless Course Hero and its respective parents, subsidiaries and affiliated entities, directors, officers, employees, attorneys, agents, and representatives from any damage, injury, death, loss, claim, action, demand, or other liability (collectively, “Claims”) that may arise from your acceptance, possession and/or use of any awarded Scholarship or your participation in this Scholarship, regardless of whether such Claims, or knowledge of the facts constituting such Claims, exist at the time of applying or arise at any time thereafter. Any person attempting to defraud or in any way tamper with this Scholarship or with Course Hero’s website may be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Course Hero reserves the right to modify these Official Rules in any way or at any time. Course Hero and Scholarship America each reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to cancel or suspend this Scholarship should viruses, bugs or other causes beyond their control corrupt the administration, security or proper operation of the Scholarship. In the event of cancellation or suspension, Course Hero or Scholarship America shall promptly post a notice on Course Hero’s or Scholarship America’s website to such effect. This Scholarship shall be governed by Delaware law, without regard to conflicts of laws provisions. By participating in this Scholarship, you agree that any dispute or litigation arising from or relating to this Scholarship shall be determined by binding arbitration only in San Mateo County, CA, by and under the Streamlined Arbitration Rules and Procedures of JAMS, and judgment on the award rendered by the arbitrator(s) may be entered in any court having jurisdiction thereof. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Course Hero may seek equitable relief in any court of competent jurisdiction. If any provision of these rules is held to be illegal or unenforceable, such provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that these rules otherwise remain in full force and effect and enforceable.
