    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Great course, but you have to work hard to do well

    Course highlights:

The first section and test are pretty much review, mitosis, meiosis, Mendelian stuff - leaning curve gets steep in the next section. If you get behind, you will likely pay for it on tests. There are lots of processes you have to really understand to do well on tests.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

If you have a genuine interest in science, this is the course for you. Don't expect to coast, don't expect to cram and do well. Do not get behind. Get into a study group, some TA's are better at teaching the material than others - go to different discussions, talk to other students, get help right away when you are struggling with a concept. The course goes fast and is a lot of material. Get into a study group, particularly if you are someone who learns better from discussion than from a book. Watch the animations - they help you really understand the processes. Make sure you know the problem sets inside out, the vocabulary, and all cellular processes before each exam. If you can do the problem sets easily you will do well on the exams. Don't blow off the quizzes/lectures - they give you extra credit that can easily bump you up a grade and you only need 75% on both to get full extra credit points.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The lectures are mundane, the textbook is often more explanatory. He grades incredibly harsh on the tests.

    Course highlights:

Going to review sessions before tests can be incredibly helpful, no matter how much you think you understand the material.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

READ the syllabus. And always go to the discussion sessions, the TA's make the class.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The beginning of the course is repetition of every biology course anyone has ever taken - Transcription, Translation, Mitosis, Meiosis. It gets harder, and yo should definitely go to class. John David is an old ball, but he is very wise and knowledgable.

    Course highlights:

I learned why Genetics is one of the most groundbreaking sciences in today's world.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

For test review, go over the powerpoints and old exams. These are the best way to prepare because the exams are all essay and short answer.
