Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I took this course in winter 2014, I still remember how joyful it was. The teacher didn't make it complicated as a social science subject, instead he shared stories that got every student in the class to be involved and participate. I was good experience to me to take it as elective course.

    Course highlights:

Human mind, nervous system which has tremendous information and knowledge to make you want to know more and more. I learn a lot, I can apply it to my daily life and understand human feelings.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

To read each assignment at time be prepared for quizzes, that is when you read the chapter before you come to class.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The biggest reason for why I recommend this course in particular is because of the way Prof. Puritan organizes the course. It's organized so that that class learns a set number of chapters, we take quizzes on those chapters, then there's a test based off of the questions on the quizzes, and ultimately the final is based off selected questions that were previously selected on the tests. The method of teaching looks to have the student memorize information. There's no surprises, just the expectation to memorize, or over learn key information within the field of psychology.

    Course highlights:

Some highlights would be when we learned about Freud's work with the conscious, sub conscious and unconscious mind of the human being. Looking at methods such as his that were used in order to try to obtain hidden information within the person's psyche. Another highlight was learning the history of mental illness, from the barbaric practices seen in Bethlehem hospital of 13th century London, to the experiences Dorothea Dix documented in her experiences as a patient. In addition to which, seeing how much more progressive the field of psychology is today in terms of viewing mental illness as a spectrum that everyone's a part of, rather then something as stiff, limited and inclusive to a group of people.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

This course is for students who are self sufficient, and can be punctual with deadlines, like with any summer course. There's a lot of reading, but there's also class lectures where Prof. Purinton goes over the chapter, so there's a lot of support too that comes with the dynamics of the class. I never found myself overwhelmed with the amount, or content of work because of how thoroughly we go through each chapter in the textbook.
