    | Probably wouldn’t recommend.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I wouldn't recommend this professor. She didn't seem confident in her knowledge of the material she was covering. It felt like the material tested was not covered in class.

    Course highlights:

Cell structure and function was covered throughly during this class. Each chapter covered built on each other. Also, we learned about different types of bacteria and viruses and the effects they have on humans and the environment.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Keep studying old chapters to keep the material fresh. Don't be afraid to ask the professor to clarify what is being covered if you are not understanding the topic. Grab a study buddy and quiz each other once a week.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Biology is a great course in which you will learn more about how your body functions and works. Professor Madden is a very sweet lady and definitely knows her material. She is available outside of class time to help you with anything you need. She also provides worksheets to fill out while she teaches. These worksheets are very helpful when it comes to studying for tests. The course included a lab time in which we engaged in very interesting experiments. We conducted a course-long study of the origins of a tree on campus. We researched what type of tree it could be and conducted a DNA test, comparing it to our initial thoughts.

    Course highlights:

I learned a lot about the body! I took a biology class in high school, but this college course provided greater depth and talked about more concepts than at the high school level. I learned all how cells work and the properties of phosphates and carbohydrates. Professor Madden also taught about genetics and we learned about punnett squares. The lectures and the labs went hand-in-hand, which greatly aided in remembering the material. Additionally, the lab portion taught me how to write a lab report.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

I would encourage you take this class if you know you have time to study. Biology is a tough class in general, but if you make time to study, you will be successful in the course. Do not be afraid to ask the professor for help after class, email her, or visit her during office hours.
