    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I recommend this course with Dr. Kurilla because he was thorough in explaining assignments, present in discussion boards, and consistently organized. Although the coursework was challenging, Dr. Kurilla cared about each student's understanding of the material, always answered my questions prompty, and gave constructive feedback. The course itself was helpful in teaching me more about various research methods involved in psychology. If you plan to focus on research in the world of psychology, this course offers a fantastic overview.

    Course highlights:

I enjoyed working on the final project, which was a hypothetical research report based upon real data. It was instrumental in my understanding of the material, and it gave me the freedom to select my own topic to conduct research on, which made me more interested.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

I strongly recommend keeping up with the readings and perhaps even printing them out each week, highlighting in them, and taking notes because the quizzes and final exam especially are heavily based on the readings. If you fall behind or miss a reading, you will regret it. Save yourself the time during finals week and make a study guide for each chapter as you go. Also, make sure you brush up on your basic statistics knowledge prior to taking the course. There is a quiz on stats review during the first week, and both research reports require knowledge on hypothesis testing.
