This class was tough.
Course Overview:
I learned a good amount about the subject matter, but it was a lot of work.
Course highlights:
I learned advanced math that was not required of my major.
Hours per week:
9-11 hours
Advice for students:
Do a lot of practice problems and go to the tutoring center.
This class was tough.
Course Overview:
Although this course was very difficult, the wide range of staff at the Ohio State University create a very positive learning environment. The group sessions in recitation allow students to work together to develop an understanding of difficult subjects.
Course highlights:
The highlights of the course were the four projects done throughout the year. These projects, while very difficult, required critical thinking of the student. The projects applied the obscure material learned in the course to real-life instances. Not only did I learn about calculus, but this course helped me to develop critical thinking skills.
Hours per week:
12+ hours
Advice for students:
Throughout the semester, I spent many hours outside of class taking notes on the book. Then, in preparation for the exams, I would use review material provided and take practice exams as if they were official. I believe the time spent outside of class is more important than the time in class for this course.
Not too easy. Not too difficult.
Course Overview:
Calculus 2 is known as one of the most rigorous courses of calculus. If you are confident in your calculus abilities in calculus 1, I would recommend this course. However, if you are not so confident in your calculus 1 skills, I would not recommend taking calculus 2.
Course highlights:
sequences and series are a big portion of calculus 2. We also touched on vectors, volumes of solids, length of curves, and of course integration.
Hours per week:
6-8 hours
Advice for students:
Make sure to attend your professor's office hours and always review your notes the night after lecture.
