    Definition:

    prostacyclin, thromboxane, prostaglandins, leukotrienes, endothelin, complement, interleukins, tumor necrosis factor and others. Once mediators are released, organ system ischemia and failure can occur even when adequate perfusion (macro) is achieved. Patients can die of multi-organ system failure (MSOF) even when bleeding has been controlled.
