Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this class because I feel students will benefit greatly from Professor Lawrence’s Professional Communications class. He has the knowledge and tools to help make a student’s transition from high school to college then to the work place a more pleasant experience.

    Course highlights:

We learned why semantics matter in professional communication and the importance of semantic features when communicating. You will learn so much about the power of language and its impact on the world. Learning about semantics taught me that everyone interprets words, actions and phases differently. Though, I might see a word and it’s meaning as good someone else might see the same word and associate it with a bad experience or other mishap that traumatized them for life. Semantics is another good tool to learn before entering the professional work force because it helps you to understand and accept different points of view.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

It's important to show up for class and make sure you arrive on time. Always communicate with your group and listen to their ideas. Be sure to take lots of notes because at the end of the week you will have to write a paragraph on what you learned during the week.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend the course Intro to Professional Communications to everyone because it teaches you how to communicate properly and effectively. I learned how to deescalate a heated conversation by using objective mode, which is one of the principles learned in this course. The skills I gained from taking this course have taken the way I communicate to the next level.

    Course highlights:

We learned why semantics matter in professional communication and the importance of semantic features when communicating. I learned how to deal with difficult people and how to express myself without yelling or screaming but by using my words in an effective and non-emotional manner. The class had to put together skits and role play in order to find the best way to resolve certain situations.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure you show up for class and pay attention because there is a lot of group projects and you need to be in sync with your group. Most of the group projects require lots of critical thinking and conflict resolution so be prepared to contribute to the project instead of slacking off. Be prepared to work with people from all walks of life and backgrounds without an attitude or judgment.
