    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This course is usually taken by people who need to understand the basics of signal processing - if that is what you're interested in, you'll probably need to take it!

    Course highlights:

This class focuses on linear time-invariant signals in order to introduce the concepts of convolution, Fourier Series, Fourier Transforms, Z-transforms, Sampling, and common methods of Digital Signal Processing with a focus on communication methods. These concepts are covered for both the continuous and discrete time domains, so you'll essentially learn two sets of equations and concepts

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

The biggest piece of advice I can give is to understand the big picture. It can be very easy to attack problems from a mathematical standpoint only without understanding what's happening to the signal - this can lead to numerous errors and extremely hard calculations if you don't know all your calculus methods for derivation purposes. Many times, it's simply easier to look at the signal, understand what's happening to it, and know what shortcuts or assumptions you can make in order to solve the problem.
