Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I loved this course! It is a great beginning course for students who think they may be interested in teaching as a career.

    Course highlights:

This class allowed me the opportunity to assist a teacher in a local classroom at the grade level I thought I would want to teach. As a freshman, this was an eye-opening, wonderful experience!

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Take advantage of the time you have in the classroom. While some teachers may just expect you to watch from the sidelines, find ways to get involved! You have already completed whichever grade/class you are observing, so just watching will not help you determine if teaching is for you-- you have to take on the role of the teacher! Offer to help tutor students, talk with the students (they're real people!!), and use what you're learning in class in your observation time.

    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

Well, to become a teacher this course is required so any future teacher must take it. It is an interesting course though and allows one to learn more about education and different aspects that you do not normally think of. Plus you get some field experience as well. Most importantly, you get the chance to develop you educational philosophy early on and later see how it has changed since you began the process of becoming a teacher. It is really useful.

    Course highlights:

I loved the professor I had and I actually took the version of this course that went to Chicago Public Schools. That was an amazing experience where I got the chance to see what CPS was like and decide whether that would be an option to consider in the future. By seeing a CPS school, I did learn that this was not the type of environment for me but without having attended this course I would have never known.

    Hours per week:

    0-2 hours

    Advice for students:

Do not wait till last minute for any papers. There are a lot of them that are fairly long and once you sit down and start typing it is easy to crank them out. Waiting till the night before can make it pretty stressful though.
