    | No strong feelings either way.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This is a course that I would not recommend to a student who has another alternative of general chemistry to take however if you are pre-med, a chem major, or any other kind of related area of study then you are stuck with it. It is pretty difficult however, looking back I realized that I could have taken more advantages of the resources that were offered for the class because there were quite a few.

    Course highlights:

The sections that were focused on are as follows: trends in the periodic table lewis structures and molecular geometries thermochemistry quantum theory (orbitals, waves, and stuff) There may be other sections but I my be forgetting, either way it is clearly stated in the syllabus.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Enroll in 1007, like actually enroll, don't say that you'll just go to the class when you need to because you won't or when you do it may not be as helpful. Also go to the 1007 tutors!! I realized that they are just as , often more helpful than the gen chem TA office hours because they are undergrads that just took the course and know the ins and outs of material. 1070 may be helpful too but really only the practice prelims, everything else is not as helpful.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Although this course is very challenging and has a heavy course load, the professors are very knowledgable and I learned a great deal in this course, much more in-depth material than I learned in AP Chemistry in high school. If you are a science major, this is a fundamental intro course.

    Course highlights:

This course covered mostly the chemistry of the main group elements, with a quick overview of the transition metals at the end of the course. The beginning of the course was very math-based, focusing on stoichiometry and other chemical calculations. The second half moved into brief thermochem, orbitals and wave functions, valence bond theory, molecular orbital theory and ligand field theory. Highlights were the chemical demonstrations and the professor's humor.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure to attend every lecture and review your notes after each class. Keep up on the homework and do the practice book problems each week to get a better understanding. If you are confused, ask for help- there are so many resources! There are two supplement classes, 1070 and 1007, plus TA and professor office hours very often. Also give yourself a good amount of time to do lab reports.
