Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I have spend many late nights in the library and I have walked home late and felt totally fine. I have never encountered, personally, any campus crime or anything. The police and safety are great and quick when needed. I feel very safe.

    Course highlights:

ZooMass Life – Amherst is a great college town. It's very diverse with great local markets and friendly people. The University, as well as the town, provides students with great bus transportation.Needing More Diverity.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

There are many different races at UMass-Amherst, but the school does little to show or compliment diversity. International student organizations are given little credit. The University is capable of doing more, but it's a shame about the lack of diversity support.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Kate is an amazing grad student/professor who develops interesting writing prompts and also incorporates music and film as cornerstones of the curriculum. Writing 112 isn't a requirement for all students, since there are multiple opportunities to place out of it, but I'm so glad I ended up needing to enroll. It gave me a concrete purpose to write, and I loved every piece of it.

    Course highlights:

I produced a lot of writing that I was proud of--so proud, in fact, that I entered one piece in a writing contest on campus (and it won third place)! While I initially was hesitant about having to do more formulaic types of writing, such as a comparative literary analysis and a research paper, Kate made all types appealing and allowed us to cater our topics to our interests, always. Ultimately, I was able to develop both my free-form concepts and my research-gathering methods, which provided specialized benefits.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Give it your all. You might not encounter another environment where you're offered such valuable feedback alongside creative freedom.
