    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Although this course is mandatory for all students at Wheelock, it provides great insight into the development of children in the real world. We studied the entire lifespan, from conception to death, and examine physical, cognitive, and social aspects of development.

    Course highlights:

The best part of this course was being able to go out into the field and work with children of all ages. It allowed me to apply what I was learning in the classroom to a real person in a social setting.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

The number one thing in this course is to read the supplemental materials. They provided additional material to apply to the fieldwork. I have even kept copies of the material so that I can refer to it in the future.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I recommend this course because you have no choice but to take it but you get some great experiences with while doing it.

    Course highlights:

Being able to travel through Boston and seeing how young children grow so much in just a few months physically, emotionally, and mentally is amazing! It really gives you a different experience

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure you go to your field placement site and do your field placement journals!! Yes, it has a huge impact on your grade but it also helps with the everyday assignments of the class and discussions.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This class was amazing. Martha has a clear passion for her subject and her enthusiasm is infectious. She ensured that we are completely ready to take on caring for children and she has also made sure that we know what career path we want to follow. I am so excited to finish this semester with her and see what more she can teach me.

    Course highlights:

We learned all of the basic psychology concepts and ideas for the different stages of life as well as how to write a clinical paper and literature review. Martha taught us how to have a presence in the classroom and how to observe students.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

This class, though very interesting and enjoyable, was hard work. Make sure you do all of your assignments and do not procrastinate on the papers! Keep track of the knowledge you are gaining throughout the semester as you will need it for the final papers and midsemester exams.
