    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Mowrey taught me how to read like no one ever had. She taught me to think critically and extract information as I'm reading. This helped me in every class I took for the rest of my college career. She met with me many times outside of the class to help me when I was struggling and went above and beyond her basic duties. The content of this class was intriguing and challenging, and it reassured me that gerontology is my calling.

    Course highlights:

She teaches critical thinking skills. We read several books that covered different aspects of death and dying, such as, how it teaches people to live, how we need ritual to grieve, the theology of death from different religions, hospice stories, and personal testimonies about experiences with death.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

This was the most challenging course I took in college, but it taught me the most. To be successful in this class you have to stay on top of your readings and writings, because there are a lot of them. If you feel lost or confused at all, don't be afraid to ask Dr. Mowrey to meet with you outside of class to get help.
