    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Having an understanding of statistics is crucial in the business environment. Being able to tests hypothesis of new products, or being able to calculate insurance rates needed to yield a certain profit can benefit your business career in the long run.

    Course highlights:

I learned different methods of analyzing data using statistical software packages like minitab and excel. If I had to pick a highlight of the course I would say it would be the knowledge gained from this course has helped me immensely in my follow-on finance and accounting courses.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

I would suggest taking an entry level Statistics course just so that you are familiar with the terminology used throughout the course. Also you will then have a foundation built on your knowledge of statistical calculations before taking this more difficult course.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I realized that business statistics ties to a lot of other business classes ( i.e finance, accounting) and understanding statistics gives you a very good base as a business student.

    Course highlights:

Business statistics helped understand how risk is measured while investing in stock or in any other industry. Knowing what type of investment is good or bad, profitable or not, riskier compared to another one, is very beneficial information. I have always been interested on investments but I never understood how to calculate risk in a given situation. Statistics gave me a very good understanding of that.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Try to understand the concepts by taking examples of the real world and the situations you find yourself every day. Statistics might sound very abstract when you start leaning it but it you can relate it to a situation, it makes way more sense. For example when you think of a population vs. a sample, you might think of your class mates as the population and all the students under 30 years old , as a sample. This is a way to understand how population and sample are related together.
