Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I think the course is very interesting! I love learning about different cultures and how other people's norms differ from our own.

    Course highlights:

I love learning about the different norms of different cultures. For example, I learned that the Yanomami Mami tribe gets married at 15 and 16, they have kids at age 16, they live in the jungle, and they only live to be about 40. Their culture norms are very different from us. Because they don't live as long, their 15 year old females are considered women not girls. If a girl in America got married at age 15, we would consider it weird because it is not part of our cultural norms.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Always to your assignments early. The assignments that are due on Sunday-get them done on Friday. Don't wait until the last minute to turn in your work.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This is a great introduction to the world of sociology with windows into psychology and human behavior!

    Course highlights:

I learned a great deal about the values and norms we hold to and their origins as well as why and how we perpetuate such ideals. I learned to check my own thinking and evaluate whether I was approaching a subject based on my upbringing and cultures set values or whether I needed to step out of the box and be less "ethnocentric". I also chose to complete the honors option for this class and I highly recommend doing so. It added to what we were learning in the chapters and provided even more food for thought. My instructor was great about guiding and challenging me on the honors assignments. She is a fantastic professor!

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Definitely read the whole chapters and before taking the final, be sure to use the final exam learning objectives as it is a departmental final and there will be questions on that exam that have not been covered either in the text or discussions.
