The class is not very fast-paced and the professor truly cares about the students.
One unexpected thing I learned was how some topics I have studied in chemical engineering (such as fluid mechanics) relate to characteristics of carbonate rocks.

In order to succeed, complete the practice tests the professor gives before the exams. Also, pay attention to the content in the assigned readings and take note of phrases/concepts the professor frequently repeats.
