    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Swart has an incredible wealth of information and passion for this class. It is such an important area of social work, as it overlaps with almost any issue. Any client can be a survivor of domestic violence, or related to someone who is going through it. The process of supporting and treating women who are currently in abusive relationships is very complex and requires a lot of skill and patience, so every social worker should have a basic understanding of the information taught in this course.

    Course highlights:

This course provides students with knowledge about abusive relationships, from the causes to the evidence-based treatments. It covers the impact of the issue from the individual level all the way up to institutions and societal beliefs, values and attitudes that reinforce violence and unequal power dynamics across genders.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

This class has some really heavy content, make sure you really take time for yourself as needed and engage in regular self-care.
