    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Research your teachers before you take the class. The awesome part about MCAD is that all the teachers are working in the field they're teaching in. I only looked up my teacher, Val Jenkins, portfolio at the end of the year and saw that her work is amazing. Something about seeing a teachers portfolio just shows you that oh wow, they actually know and believe what they are saying and didn't just memorize it - or, oh wow they are a faker. She is the former.

    Course highlights:

She was tough! She was unafraid to call a student out for a lack of trying and pushed even the best students to do better. It was a still life and perspective drawing class and it was fantastically difficult - most drawings taking (me) about 20+ hours.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

You don't have to get every detail perfect. Just put in the time and it will show - I promise

I recommend this course because it's required and you learn a lot of useful skills when it comes to drawing.

    Advice for students:

Spend a lot of time on your work and do every exercise, even in class.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

If you intend to go to art school, drawing 1 is definitely a good course to take seriously. You learn the fundamentals of drawing and really get a feel for how to observe objects.

    Course highlights:

I really enjoyed learning about perspective. We learned a lot about doing perspective from observation which helps a ton when critically thinking about a drawing.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Just go into the class ready and eager to learn. Don't take criticism to harshly and don't take things personal. You are there to learn after all so don't let a teacher's critical opinion of your work ruin it.
