Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The health assessment course prepares you for your future nursing career. It teaches about head to toe assessment which are usually done during fundamentals course. The focus of the class prepares you to learn about the different abnormal findings when assessing a patient. There is a lot of information to cover and skills to practice, so having someone that you can be friends with through out the course is very helpful.

    Course highlights:

I learned how to listen to the heart. How to detect abnormal sounds that may be present like heart mummers. I learned how to perform different assessment techniques.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Practice, Practice, Practice. The head to toe examine we were graded on at the end of the quarter was not to hard but it was a lot to learn. There are a lot of steps you have know and perform. Stay current on your reading by having set times and dates you will complete assignments.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

It is a great class in introducing how to do assessments and what to look for. Assessment is a critical portion in the nursing profession, so this course gives you a great introduction and in-depth description and practice working this skill.

    Course highlights:

The highlight of this class is the lab portion. It allows you to practice this skill on classmates so that when you get into clinical portions of classes, assessment should be comfortable and natural, making it the least of your worries during the clinical experience. I have learned the basics, such as what to look for, how to document, and basic skills such as vital signs and proper hand washing.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

The biggest thing for this class is to make sure that the reading is done prior to lecture so what they are going over is more of a clarification versus brand new information as there is a lot of information to obtain within assessments.
