    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This is a difficult, but interesting course. If you enjoy biology and are willing to work hard, you will like this class.

    Course highlights:

The laboratory experiments were the best part. Labs were a practical version of what was covered in lecture and you get to see bacteria up close, something I particularly enjoyed.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Come to class prepared and having read the chapter. The better you know the material the better you will do on tests. And pay close attention, taking good notes in class.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I learned so much about bacteria and also a fair bit about viruses - how they spread, what is true (or not) about our assumptions concerning hand washing, hand sanitizers, etc. The labs were super interesting.

    Course highlights:

I learned that washing hands is not meant to kill bacteria, but just to get the non-resident bacteria off your hands. I learned that resident bacteria are more helpful in crowding out other bacterial invaders than any other method or strategy. I learned that there are viruses that can kill bacteria.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

If you're taking the hybrid class as I did, make the time to watch the professor's video lectures.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Professor Crowley has extensive knowledge and background in microbiology and expects his students to learn, not memorize. With this, his tests and quizzes are hard with more fill in the blanks than multiple choice.

    Course highlights:

The highlight of this course was Professor Crowley's lab. His instructions were cut and dry and he let us do all of the work in order for us to learn at the highest potential.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

For this course you will definitely need to buy flashcards and study. I recommend creating a quizlet account for online flashcards and memorization games. This class requires brain power. It's easy to get a good grade if you are willing to work hard and learn.
