Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Informatics is a required course for the Nurse Practitioner's program and is highly recommended considering the new age of technology. With the advent of the electronic health record and computerized documentation, technology plays a huge role in patient care while maintaining patient confidentiality and opening the line of communication between health professionals and patients.

    Course highlights:

I learned how the law mandated hospitals to adopt the electronic health record and the penalties faced if not compliant. I learned about the latest technology that is cost saving yet effective for patient care and how nurses use a universal language to prevent ambiguity in patient care.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

I would advise students to become familiar with the nurse informaticist role and become expert computer users regarding using technology to research evidence-based practices and to familiarize themselves with the electronic health record.
