Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Professor Duren is very thorough teacher but he doesn't play about his work. He's not lenient at all when it comes to his assignments but he is understanding. I went to him before class one day and told him that I was struggling with my homework. He had specific guidelines for how he wanted the assignments done. I thought I was doing his assignments right but my grades were reflecting differently. I went and asked him what I was doing wrong and he told me what I was doing wrong...he also told me what I was doing right. During midterms I had a D. By finals I had a B, not too far from an A.

    Course highlights:

I learned effective speech techniques in his class. He not only made us learn, he made us utilize. I learned how to get over my stage fright or public speaking apprehension. We learned how to engage an audience through different speaking styles. Professor Duren also taught us about what is appropriate visual aids for a presentation which was very helpful. He taught us methods on appropriately delivering a speech and how to diffuse a situation if someone becomes offended.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Pay close attentions to the deadlines and consider doing the work ahead of time. Seriously. If the assignment is due Friday, do it Thursday. They aren't assignments you can just do and have completed in under an hour. They require thought and he knows when you haven't given his assignments much effort. You're graded accordingly.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This speech class, that is required for social work majors, teaches real life lessons and its really comforting to know that Mr. Duren is 100% there for you. This teacher challenges the mind and makes sure those social skills are being used correctly. This class broke me out of my shell and gave me tons of hands on experiences and real life experiences and situations.

    Course highlights:

The highlights to this course is the interaction. Not one person is allowed to be quite in this course. This course will open your mind to common sense knowledge for all students. The scenarios used in this college course are mature and well thought of. All students who take this course will be pushed to be more verbal. All opinions matter as the course touches on subjects like: How to present a presentation, "what to do" Scenarios, how to talk to different crowds of people, and conflict/ solution problems.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure you purchase the Communications book in advance and online, the bookstore cost is too much. I suggest using Valore books to rent or buy books.
