    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The course material is 50/50, I say this because I already work in the medical field doing medical billing. Having almost a decade of experience, I can say that some of the chapters are poorly written in the student workbook. The AAPC's editor fell asleep while reading the manual on English Grammar. Honestly, if you can spot ANY punctuation in the first 5 or so chapters, it's a miracle. Some of the chapters are great. It's very hit and miss. One pitfall, if one enters this course, YOU ARE YOUR OWN TEACHER. That's correct, there is NO professional guidance, no syllabus, no chapter deadlines, no 1-on-1 or 1-on-anything help. You are on your own. You must be extremely motivated and stay on top of every single assignment (20 chapters total, each with several hours worth of reading, quizzes, practicals, interactive PowerPoint lectures, and chapter Exams + 1 final exam). Diligence is key. There is an email where someone with AAPC can get back to you (2 business days, mind you) if you have any specific questions. AAPC quotes this as an 80-hour course - that is your ONLINE portion only. You should be spending about 4 hours studying to each ONE online hour. You may look at their website and think to yourself, "80-hour course, that doesn't sound so bad." Girlfriend (or boyfriend, whatever) it is not an 80-hour course. You have 4 months from date of purchase to complete the course, you do have the option to purchase an extension if needed.

    Course highlights:

I am halfway through the program. My top things I have learned (in no particular order): - STUDY, STUDY, STUDY. Whatever you're doing.... double it -It's the AAPC. It's hard. Don't get bogged down by perfectionism. If you get an 85% or better you thank the AAPC gods of bureaucratic, arbitrary, BS rules and move on! - my CPC coworkers all state: focus on learning anatomy, it's crucial in sitting the CPC exam -Good luck.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Turn your coffee pot on. Probably invest in something that brews by the gallon.
