    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This course is recommended for all Advanced Nurses. The course continues to build on the solid nursing foundation that nurses began in nursing school and continues to prepare you for advanced nursing. It is critical for Advanced Nurses to complete this course for their future nursing career.

    Course highlights:

I learned in this course the differences between multiple diseases, health promotion, evidence-based treatment, and the advanced nurses' role in treating, caring and educating patients on the disease process and treatment.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

A study group is essential to this course. Find other students in the course to study weekly with and bounce study habits and tips off of on a regular basis. You need the extra support from other students and your family and friends to be successful in this course.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This is a very challenging course. It requires a great deal of study, but the knowledge gained is essential for a future healthcare provider. The student will finish this course with an enhanced knowledge of disease processes and treatments.

    Course highlights:

I learned a great deal about the body systems and the many ways in which disease can disrupt these systems. This course is taken in conjunction with the advanced pharmacotherapuetics course. Taking these two courses in the same semester is a full time class load, and probably too much even at that. The two classes do correspond to one another very closely, though, and provide the student with a strong basis of understanding of disease in the human body, and the medications used to treat those diseases.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Maryville University structures its program with this course and the Advanced Pharmacotherapeutics course to be taken concurrently in the same semester. Think twice before doing this. These are the two hardest courses in the nurse practitioner program. This program is intended to be a part-time program for adult students to complete while working, but this is very very hard to do while taking these two classes together.
