    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I recommend this course because it taught me a new way to approach and study for the material. The teacher is also very helpful and dedicated.

    Course highlights:

I learned so much from learning how to write reaction mechanisms to determining chirality. And I'm still taking this course!

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

You should definitely study the homework and do not push studying unit the very last minute. Try to work out the problems and practice every week before the exam.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Professor Kilway is the best chemistry teacher. The course is difficult, it is not easy A. But if you work at it, do the homework, and go to the extended review sessions you will do fine in the course. Kilway explains everything super well if you're willing to pay attention in class.

    Course highlights:

You learn everything you need to know about the structural and chemical components of the carbon atom. You will also go over electronegativity, reaction mechanisms, resonance, acids, what is chiral and anti-chiral and conformations

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Do five problems a day, try not to skip a day. Go to the SI sessions when possible and at least go to one extended review session. Study at least a week before the test if not two weeks.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Dr. VanHorn is a fun professor who made the course interesting for students (or at least as interesting as Organic Chemistry can be).

    Course highlights:

I learned basic reactions between different types of molecules, how they are classified, and their how they remain stable.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Like every professor I have met at UMKC, the key is to seek help when you're in trouble. If you're trying your best outside of class, and can't understand a concept, there's no shame in going to the professor and asking for help. They want you to succeed.
