Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Professor Groves does not just know her stuff about writing, but wants her students to achieve. She puts them in a situation where success will come with proper work ethic and communication with her. She also has a great sense of humor, and knows how to relate to her students.

    Course highlights:

How to identify compare and contrast and cause and effect essays, creating a voice in your writing, and many other helpful writing tips. She discussed and explained how to write a solid, well-organized essay from start to finish. Gave examples of hooks and discussed how to strengthen thesis statements for the introduction. Explained that body paragraphs should contain topic sentences relating to the thesis and must be backed up through evidence and analysis. Provided ways to finish off an essay strong and leave the reader thinking.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Success in this course is about doing the work, and trying very hard not to procrastinate writing the papers. If you put in the relatively little time required for completing the work, she usually work with you if the grade you got on a paper was not what you were looking for. Communication is also a key factor, because communicating with her about what she is looking for will improve the writing done on papers for the class.

The highlights of the course were finishing the essays. Usually it was always hard to get started, but once you got going and finished it, it felt like such a huge accomplishment for myself.
