I learned about how the voting system was back in the 1800's, what a tariff is, simple things that happened during the American revolution (safety and working regulations, industrial equipment and practices), and Upton Sinclair and the FDA.

take good notes and read the book (Boys of the Midwest I think it's called) ahead of time so you aren't reading a whole ton in one sitting, get the blackboard app on your phone so you don't miss extra credit, and pay attention in class because there's a lot of things on the test that the professor will talk about.
