    | Would highly recommend.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would truly recommend this course, especially with Professor Pulju. It is really interesting deconstructing and reconstructing a language and it helps in cross cultural dialogue.

    Course highlights:

We were able to learn parts of the international phonetic alphabet thoroughly and this was essential for the rest of the course. Moreover, we were able to understand the skeleton of how some languages construct sentences as well as the similarities and dissimilarities between some languages and some language families. In the process, I learnt a bit about the history of the English language.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

I suggest that you do all the homework and read the book (daily assignments). A lot of the information given is very interesting and helpful. As the pace of Dartmouth is quite fast, doing the daily homework and practicing keep you at pace with the course work.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course because it is unique. You get to learn about language and its many forms and uses. You can apply the knowledge to other areas of study. It is a great course to take as a first-year student.

    Course highlights:

I realized that I was really interested in studying language by taking this course. There are so many idiosyncrasies in language that we touched on in this course. I look forward to studying them more closely in future Ling courses.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Study throughout the course, even when there is not an exam coming up. When a topic is introduced, study it outside of class so you become familiar with it. The topics build upon each other, and you want to make sure you have a strong base.
