    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Professor Burkholder (or Peter, as he prefers for be called) is a fantastic teacher who really makes music history come alive for his students. He stresses how applicable it is to our current practice of playing, and how we as musicians can continue to learn from the ancient masters.

    Course highlights:

For me, one of the highlights was the professor himself. But besides that, the subject matter was very interesting. It was especially fascinating to learn about the development of music notation.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Definitely do all of the reading. I also found it helpful to take notes on the reading and on the lectures, to ensure that I fully absorbed all of the information. Be warned, the pace of the class is quite fast.
