    Course Overview:

I just began this course a few weeks ago, however I can say it is totally worth it! Interesting, and challenging while intriguing too! To learn the disciplines, techniques, thought process, legal system ,punishments and how to get yourself inside a psychopath's head!

    Course highlights:

I am still learning, it is only week 2 of the class! However, even so, I have learned a great deal thus far. Currently, we are studying the different disciplines of criminology, such as Psychological Criminology or Sociological Criminology. Along with different disciplines involved, we are studying criminal behavior in regards to: Origins, Statistics, and Rationale

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course because it makes the ordinary individual aware of how individuals are inducted into the criminal justice system and how the system functions in the United States.

    Course highlights:

I learned that the single greatest predictor of crime is joblessness and that 70% of released prisoners return to custody within 3 years due to joblessness. In 2006, there were 2,385,213 people in prison. Since 1989, there have been 212 DNA exonerations in the United States; 15 of the 212 were on death row. I also learned that the US accounts for only 5% of the world's population, but is responsible for 22% of the world's prison population. The majority of the prison population consists of African American males and other minorities. 1 out of 3 African American males are in jail, on probation, or on parole. 2.3 million people are in jails or prisons in the US today, 7,000,000 on probation and parole.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

I advise any student considering this course to be ready to buckle down to doing a tremendous amount of research and writing. Also, creativity and originality is a requirement for doing well in the course.
