    | No strong feelings either way.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Wang tried his best with teaching. Organic chemistry is a very complex subject to cover and there is so much information. He had to go through lectures quickly and most students didn't understand what he was explaining. I would definitely recommend doing the online homework and the homework that he hands out. The paper homework will definitely help with the tests.

    Course highlights:

Overall, I learned about the basics of organic chemistry. Some of this was from Dr. Wang but I give most of my success through learning on my own. I used several outside study sources such as videos, books, and online resources, such as Coursehero.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

If you have to take it then Dr. Wang is okay. If you have the option to take Nikles then I would take Nikles because she usually makes the recitation worksheets and the lab. If you have to take Dr. Wang I would suggest reading the book, doing homework he assigns, and taking every extra credit he gives.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Both professors are very intelligent and fun professors, but the material can be difficult. I enjoyed it much more than general chemistry because I dislike math and organic chemistry is more drawing. It is like a big puzzle.

    Course highlights:

Being able to create a complex molecule from just a benzene ring and some reactants.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Practice, practice, practice! Always do the practice examples given to you. It will strengthen your problem solving abilities and critical thinking for the material.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Velu has thorough powerpoints and lectures. The tests are never surprises but still cover a lot of material.

    Course highlights:

I gained a better understanding of how molecules interact with one another and also how to think in 3D space. There's nothing quite as satisfying as having things "click" and being able to understand material deeper than the surface level of plain memorization.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Try to actually understand the material instead of straight-up memorizing. Memorizing mechanisms is no fun without actually getting how each molecule/ion comes in and attacks!
