Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course because it is a great hands-on learning experience. This lab goes along well with what you learn in the organic chemistry lecture so you can relate what is going on in the classroom to real life. Learning laboratory skills is extremely useful knowledge to have.

    Course highlights:

I learned a lot of new laboratory skills that I am still using today, such as distillations, extractions, and infrared spectroscopy. I also learned how to be time efficient in the lab. With longer experiments, it is important to be efficient with your time so you can finish everything before the class is over.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Reading the textbook and understanding the experiment ahead of time is critical. This is especially true when performing the experiment and writing the lab reports. If you know what is generally suppose to happen, then you can be efficient in the lab. Also if you're talking about, it makes writing the reports so much easier. Plan out the experiment procedure in great detail. Think about when you should go grab that diethyl ether or when you should clean out your distillation column. This will save lots of time.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The professor is really good. She is funny and tries maximize the time that we are in the classroom. Although she has a pretty thick Russian accent, she even made the joke to read the book because it does not have one. She is always willing to help outside of class. She can be unorganized in her teaching method, so take as many notes as you can and compare them to the book to get the whole picture.

    Course highlights:

I thought that Organic Chemistry was going to be the death of me, but she made it relatively easy to learn and easy to follow. The best parts is when she breaks out the kit that she has because she allows you to really see the molecule which is extremely helpful when trying to build it yourself on paper.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Take as many notes as possible. In a class which is based on being able to draw molecules and understand how they break apart and form, the more examples you have, the better.
