Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Professor van Loon is passionate about biology and that infuses the lectures and labs with some excitement. She also genuinely cares about the students and their success in the class.

    Course highlights:

You learn SO much in this course from cellular structure and function to genetics to biotechnology. I loved the cell division lab; being able to see cells in various phases of mitosis was fascinating.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

The tests require a lot of studying. I recommend making flashcards to make sure you know all the details and one page study guides to ensure you understand the overarching concepts.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend Professor Jayant's class if you are interested in applying to medical schools or are interested in pursuing a degree in a scientific field.

    Course highlights:

The amount of material she cover's is incredible. I see a good amount of information pop up in my evolutionary biology class that I am taking at SUNY UB, making lecture easier to follow.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

You have to study a lot for her class, it's definitely a tough one at BMCC. Professor Jayant's lab tests are also a bit difficult because she tests you on a lot of details. Again, if you are not interested in going to medical school or pursuing a degree in a scientific field, I would not recommend her class because it requires a lot of effort and you just have to have the heart for it.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would definitely recommend this course as it lays the foundations for Biological study for students interested in seeking a degree in the sciences.

    Course highlights:

Writing lab reports, evaluating observations in the natural world, and beginning those observations from a microscopic level and build our way up from there - having confidence in ourselves and judgment.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Be confident, approach things with an analytical (and patient) mind, and remember that everything is linked - from the smallest molecule to the largest planet, and beyond.
