Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

i would highly recommend this class because it has vastly enlarged my awareness of music around the globe. i must say that I went into this class living in a box compared to all of the music of the world. I now know the origins of many genres of music as well as many musical instruments and how they were made. and how all of the music are interconnected in some way and embody influences from two leading places, these being from African origin and European influence.

    Course highlights:

i learned about polyrhythm and a better understanding of how harmonies and melody are formed from each region of the world. i've learned about many instruments that i had no idea what they were called and now also can identify them by their sonic signatures and through its timbres. i've greatly improved my musical vocabulary and can clearer discuss musical histories, and terminology with a more coherent projection.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

come into this class with an open mind and being willing to learn and appreciate new music even if its not something you don't like or think you may like for that matter. be honest with your ability to describe what you hear without being offensive and birth a new appreciation for music and cultures of the world.
